Is Virgin Coconut Oil Good for My Teeth?
Even though a lot of people haven’t heard about Virgin Coconut oil, it has become quite popular in the last 20 years. Coconut oil is extracted naturally from coconut husks. It takes lots and lots of coconuts to make 1 gallon of oil. Generally it takes around 50. Even though the FDA has formally said that coconut oil is bad for you because it contains saturated fats and legislators have worked hard to get it banned from movie theaters in the past, the truth is that coconut oil is good for you. (Actually, it seems quite ironic that a lot of things that the government forces you to do or not to do are actually bad, and when you can choose for yourself you can actually make much better choices.)
The truth is that coconut oil is high in saturated fat. Have you ever heard of oil pulling? Oil pulling is amazing. I didn’t believe it actually worked until I tried it myself. By switching coconut oil around in my mouth for about 10 min. and then spitting it out, I was able to rid my mouth of lots and lots of harmful bacteria. The first few days I felt pretty nauseous after doing it, but after I got used to it I think it really helped. The theory behind oil pulling is that oil pulling uses saturated fats to pull bacteria out of your mouth. The bacteria will clean the fat molecules and when you spit them out, it gets all the germs and bacteria. You don’t have to use an antibacterial mouthwash, you just have to use natural fats. Oil pulling really works because it helps in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. Some people who believe in oil pulling also believe that it will keep the rest of your body healthy because most sickness are taken in through the body through your mouth. If you’re going to do oil pulling on a regular basis, it is also a good idea to try using extra virgin coconut oil.
